Advanced Students and Adults

I am experienced in taking serious young students and adult learners to their next level, whether for conservatory applications or for personal satisfaction. My teaching leads students to understand their own bodies (in relation to making different tune colours on the piano) and the demands of the musical materials (structure, harmonies, and so on). A conversational style ensures that student develops musical intention as they make their musical journeys.

Please see my biography page for my pianistic and educational experience.

Children

I've taught piano privately for 10 years and have students from age 5 to adults. While some of my students decided to pursue music as a career and enrolled in the Eastman School of Music and Oberlin Conservatory, others became lifelong lovers of music and art.

My approach is to balance fun and discipline. Often times students mix classical, jazz, and pop tunes in their lessons. Having taken a course on music for students with special needs, I applied that knowledge in my teaching. I am experienced in preparing students for ABRSM graded exams and conservatory auditions, but I'd be equally happy to teach music just for children to learn grace and beauty.

One of the most memorable experiences in my piano teaching is my time at the Lyra Summer Music Festival and Workshop. There, I worked with students from beginners to conservatory level, and I accompanied all non-piano students in outreach performances.

I now maintain a small, selective studio of piano students. If you'd like to have a trial lesson, please fill in the form below (scroll all the way down). Also feel free to ask me any questions you have! I'll be happy to recommend piano purchases, books, pieces, or technical exercises.
